AIIMS Delhi Submits Second Postmortem Report on Twisha Sharma Death Case; Confirms Presence of Skin Tissues on Gym Belt

New Delhi: The AIIMS Delhi medical board that conducted a court-ordered second postmortem on Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, has submitted its final forensic report to the CBI.
The five-member board handed over the 11-page report in a sealed cover on July 10, in compliance with the Madhya Pradesh High Court's directions.
According to national media coverage, the report confirms the presence of skin tissue on the alleged ligature material—a gymnastics belt, indicating that it matched the injury pattern found on Twisha's neck. However, the board's final conclusions remain confidential under judicial directions.
The initial postmortem had failed to establish this correlation because the alleged ligature material was not produced before the medical board during the first autopsy. The lapse prompted the Madhya Pradesh High Court to order a second postmortem by AIIMS Delhi and transfer the investigation to the CBI.
Dr. Sudhir Gupta, Head of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, declined to disclose the findings but said the board carried out an exhaustive scientific evaluation before reaching its conclusions.
The videography of the second postmortem has also been handed over to the CBI.
Twisha Sharma, daughter-in-law of retired Principal District and Sessions Judge Giribala Singh, was found hanging at her matrimonial residence in Bhopal. Her family later approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court, alleging lapses in the initial police investigation and postmortem examination.
