Supreme Court to Hear Petition Challenging Deletion of 47 Lakh Voters from Delhi Electoral Rolls on Monday

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will take up a petition challenging the removal of 47 lakh voters from the electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Delhi on Monday. The petitions will be heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana.

When the draft Delhi electoral roll was published following the special intensive revision exercise, 47.7 lakh names had been struck off. The lawyer appearing for petitioners Anjali Bhardwaj and Amrita Johri told the court that 47 lakh people had been removed from the electoral rolls in Delhi. Of these, notices were sent to 33 lakh people, but their details have not been made public, counsel pointed out.

Delhi had a total of 1,45,10,299 registered voters, of whom 32.9 percent have been deleted from the list.
