Oracle Lays Off 40 Employees at Technopark Office

Thiruvananthapuram: Tech giant Oracle has reportedly laid off around 40 employees at its Technopark office in Thiruvananthapuram as part of the company's global workforce reduction policy.

Employees received the notification about the layoffs last Wednesday. Several employees said they learned that they had lost their jobs only after receiving an email from the company. Those affected reportedly include employees with more than 10 years of service as well as managers and others holding senior positions.

Oracle has offered up to 10 months' salary along with other severance package to the terminated employees. However, the sudden termination without prior notice has left employees shocked. Despite the benefits being offered, there is considerable resentment among the workforce over the manner in which the layoffs were carried out.

The layoffs are being attributed to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and Oracle's decision to increase its investments in the sector. The company had also laid off around 30 employees at its Technopark office in May.

Oracle's Technopark office has around 300 employees. Prathidhwani, an organisation representing IT employees, has written to the Technopark authorities expressing concern over the layoffs.
