New Delhi: Senior officials from the Union Ministries of Health and Education, along with representatives of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Medical Commission (NMC), are scheduled to appear before a parliamentary panel on Wednesday to explain the arrangements for the NEET-UG re-examination slated for June 21.

The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare has called the Health Secretary, the Higher Education Secretary, and senior officials from the NTA and NMC to brief lawmakers on the conduct of the examination and measures being taken to ensure its integrity.

The meeting comes in the aftermath of the cancellation of the NEET-UG examination conducted on May 3 following allegations of a question paper leak. The controversy has triggered widespread anxiety among aspirants and their families, with concerns intensifying after reports of student suicides linked to the uncertainty surrounding the exam.

This will be the third parliamentary forum to scrutinise the issue. Officials from the ministries, NTA and NMC have already appeared before other parliamentary committees, where they stated that their immediate priority is the successful conduct of the June 21 re-test in pen-and-paper mode.

The health panel is expected to examine the functioning of NEET under the provisions of the NMC Act, 2019, as part of its broader review of healthcare regulatory institutions.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary committee on education, chaired by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, has sought detailed responses from the NTA regarding its definition of a "paper leak" and the steps taken to investigate alleged irregularities. The panel has also requested written clarifications from both the NTA and CBSE on issues related to examination processes and oversight mechanisms.
