Bengaluru: A Lucknow-bound IndiGo flight turned back to Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) shortly after take-off on Saturday after a suspected hijack threat note was found in the aircraft’s lavatory.

Flight 6E-451, which had departed from Terminal 1, declared a full emergency and returned to the airport after cabin crew spotted a handwritten note. The message reportedly warned that the flight would be hijacked at 6.30 and told those on board to ignore it at their peril.

IndiGo confirmed that a security threat had been reported on board the Bengaluru-Lucknow flight. It said the relevant authorities were informed immediately under standard operating procedures, and that the pilots chose to return to the originating airport so that security checks could be carried out.

The airline said the flight would continue to Lucknow once it received the required clearances. An IndiGo spokesperson said the airline regretted the inconvenience to passengers and was trying to minimise it, including by offering refreshments and providing regular updates. The spokesperson added that the safety and security of passengers, crew and aircraft remained its priority.
