SFI Warns of Strong Protest Against Higher Education Department's Order on Self-Financing Colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: SFI state secretary PS Sanjeev has warned of strong protests against the Kerala Higher Education Department's order, accusing the government of turning education into a commodity for commercial gain. In a Facebook post, Sanjeev said the move to promote private investors through financial arrangements with them would not be allowed to be implemented in Keralam.
Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has also demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Higher Education Department's new circular, alleging that it seeks to hand over the higher education sector to private managements with corporate interests for profiteering under the cover of autonomous status.
Sanjeev's Facebook post:
"The UDF has turned education into a commodity for commercial gain. The Higher Education Department in Keralam has issued a strange order. The essence of the order is that self-financing educational institutions can start courses as they please, without any restrictions.
This commercial exercise, carried out by taking money from private capitalists to nurture and promote them, will not be allowed to be implemented in Keralam. Roji M John will have to face strong protests. The government issued this order by disregarding the assurance given by Keralam before the Supreme Court. It is aimed at corruption. The SFI registers its strong protest."
