Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's sister allowed to meet him in Adiala Jail

Lahore: Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan’s sister was allowed to meet him in Adiala Jail on Tuesday, after days of speculation about his health. The visit came as large crowds of party supporters gathered outside the Rawalpindi prison, demanding proof that he was alive.

Khan, 73, has been in prison since August 2023 on multiple cases. For over a month, an unannounced ban prevented his family from visiting him, sparking social media rumours about his death. Jail authorities, however, maintain that he is in good health.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said Khan’s sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, was granted permission to visit him. The party added that it would wait to see whether the government keeps its word.

Security in the area has been tightened. The Punjab government deployed the entire Rawalpindi police force along Adiala Road to block PTI protests. Section 144, which bans gatherings of four or more people, has been imposed in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Officials said an eight‑kilometre stretch around the prison has been sealed. Schools and colleges are shut, and residents must show ID cards to pass through checkpoints.

A group of lawyers also staged a protest outside the Islamabad High Court, accusing the government of keeping Khan in isolation. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry warned that Section 144 would be enforced strictly in both cities.

Earlier, Khan’s son Kasim demanded that authorities provide proof that his father is alive. PTI has threatened nationwide protests if Khan’s sisters are not allowed regular access to him. His family has warned that if anything happens to him, those responsible will face consequences from Pakistanis at home and abroad.
