Kerala High Court to Hear Plea on Vehicle Modification on September 7

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has posted for September 7 the hearing of a petition concerning vehicle modifications. A Division Bench comprising Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice S Muraleekrishna is hearing the suo motu petition initiated by the High Court.

The High Court had earlier directed that a fine of Rs 5,000 be imposed for each unauthorised modification made to a vehicle. It had also ordered penalties for excessively bright lights and other lighting systems that do not comply with the Motor Vehicles Rules.

The court has directed authorities to take strict action against vehicle modifications that violate central laws. This includes the use of unauthorised lights or decorative fittings on the exterior of vehicles, inside the driver's cabin or in the passenger compartment.

The court has maintained that vehicles cannot be fitted with modifications or accessories that violate statutory safety and regulatory requirements.
