Mohanlal, Mammootty Pay Last Respects to Sreenivasan at Ernakulam Town Hall

Kochi: Actor Mohanlal arrived at the Ernakulam Town Hall to pay his last respects to Sreenivasan, the beloved Malayalam actor, director and screenwriter. The moment when “Dasan” came to see his dear “Vijayan” for the last time was deeply emotional. Earlier, Mohanlal recalled that his bond with Sreeni went far beyond cinema and was part of a long, shared journey in life, marked by deep emotional ties.
Actor Mammootty also reached the Town Hall to pay homage to his close friend. Thousands of people from the film industry, political circles and social life gathered to have a final glimpse of the beloved actor. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and ministers P. Rajeeve and Saji Cherian were among those who paid their respects.
Sreenivasan’s funeral will be held with official honours at his residence in Udayamperoor at 10 am on Sunday. He passed away at around 8.30 am on Saturday at the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital, following prolonged treatment for various ailments.
Apart from being an actor, Sreenivasan left an indelible mark as a director and screenwriter, bringing the everyday struggles of ordinary people to the silver screen with a distinctive blend of humour and insight. For over three and a half decades, he shone across every sphere of Malayalam cinema, emerging as a rare and multifaceted talent.
Born on April 6, 1956, at Padiyam near Thalassery, Sreenivasan grew up in an environment enriched by active reading rooms and theatre movements, which nurtured his artistic sensibilities. He studied at Kathiroor Government High School and Mattannur NSS College, and later earned a diploma from the Adayar Film Institute in 1977. Superstar Rajinikanth was his senior at the institute.
The passing of the artist who enriched Malayalam cinema’s sense of humour and social consciousness is being mourned as an irreplaceable loss by fans and colleagues alike.
