Nilambur By-Election 2025: Voting on June 19, Final Voter List Released with 2.32 Lakh Voters

Thiruvananthapuram: Nilambur Assembly constituency will go to the polls on June 19, 2025, for the upcoming by-election. The official notification will be released on May 26, according to Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U Kelkar. Counting of votes will take place on June 23.
As per the schedule, the last date for filing nominations is June 2, scrutiny will be held on June 3, and the deadline for withdrawal of nominations is June 5.
The Chief Election Commissioner has emphasised the Commission's commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election, with special focus on the accuracy and reliability of the electoral rolls. The electoral roll has been freshly updated as part of a special summary revision, with April 1, 2025, as the qualifying date, as permitted under the amended Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021.
The final electoral rolls were published on May 5, following timely completion of the revision process. Applications for inclusion will continue to be accepted and processed until ten days before the last date of nomination, allowing for a continuously updated voter list.
According to the revised final electoral roll, there are 2,32,384 voters in Nilambur constituency, which includes 1,13,486 men, 1,18,889 women, and 9 transgender persons. There are also 374 overseas (NRI) voters. A total of 6,082 new voters were added, but after field verification, 2,210 names were removed.
To enhance accessibility, 59 new polling booths have been added, bringing the total number of polling stations to 263. The gender ratio in the constituency stands at 1,048 women for every 1,000 men. Distribution of photo electoral identity cards has been completed.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) will be used in all polling stations. The Commission has ensured the availability of sufficient machines and has taken all steps to ensure smooth polling.
While the EPIC card will be the primary voter identification document, the following 12 alternate documents will also be accepted at polling stations:

Bank/Post Office Passbook with Photo
Labour Ministry Health Insurance Smart Card
Driving License
PAN Card
NPR Smart Card issued by RGI
Indian Passport
Pension Documents with Photo
Service ID Cards with Photo (Govt/PSUs/Public Ltd Cos)
Official ID Cards for MPs/MLAs/MLCs
Unique Disability ID (UDID) issued by the Ministry of Empowerment and Social Justice
As per Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, any voter can appeal against the Electoral Registration Officer’s decision to the District Election Officer, and further to the Chief Electoral Officer if required.
Copies of the final electoral roll have been distributed to recognised political party representatives by Nilambur Assistant Electoral Registration Officer M P Sindhu.
