Dehradun: Widespread outrage against the husband of a Uttarakhand minister for making derogatory remarks about girls from Bihar. The controversial statement was made by Girdhari Lal Sahu, husband of BJP ruled Uttarakhand's Women and Child Welfare Minister, Rekha Arya.

Sahu reportedly said that girls from Bihar could be bought for marriage by paying them 20,000 or 25,000 rupees. The remark was made while he was addressing young men during a public event in Almora, and a video of the statement has since gone viral on social media.

In the video, Sahu is heard saying that those unable to find a bride need not worry, as girls could be brought from Bihar for a sum of 20,000 to 25,000 rupees.

Opposition parties have strongly condemned the statement, calling it an insult to womanhood. They criticised the remark as particularly shameful given that Sahu’s wife holds the portfolio of Women and Child Welfare Ministry.

As the controversy intensified, Sahu claimed that his words had been distorted and that he was merely joking with friends. However, the Bihar State Women’s Commission has decided to issue a notice seeking action against him, demanding accountability for the offensive remarks.
