Moradabad (UP): A 46-year-old booth-level officer (BLO) allegedly committed suicide in Baheri village, Moradabad, citing work pressure, police said on Sunday.
Sarvesh Singh, an assistant teacher posted at a school in Bhagatpur Tanda village, was assigned BLO duties on October 7. This was his first time serving in the role.
Around 4 am, Singh’s wife, Babli, discovered him hanging in the storage room of their home. In a suicide note, he reportedly expressed feelings of suffocation and wrote that there was insufficient time to complete the work assigned to him.
'BLO Sarvesh Singh has committed suicide and left a note stating he was unable to cope with the burden of BLO duty. His body has been sent for post-mortem,' said Circle Officer (Thakurdwara) Ashish Pratap Singh.
Singh is survived by his wife and their four daughters.
The incident comes amid a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls underway in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, which has placed significant pressure on government employees tasked with updating voter lists and verifying genuine voters.
On Saturday, a similar case was reported in Rajasthan, where 42-year-old BLO Anuj Garg collapsed and died while uploading voter data. His family alleged he had been under extreme work pressure, according to police.
