Union Government Hits Consumers with New Year LPG Price Hike: Rs 111 Increase in One Go

New Delhi: The Union Government has raised the price of commercial LPG cylinders, effective from January 1, putting additional financial pressure on sectors that heavily depend on these cylinders, including hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and catering services. The price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has gone up by 111 rupees.
As a result of this revision, the cost of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi now stands at 1,691.50 rupees, up from 1,580.50 rupees. In Kolkata, the price has surged from 1,684 rupees to 1,795 rupees, and in Mumbai, it now costs 1,642.50 rupees, up from 1,531.50 rupees.
This price hike is expected to impact food prices, as business owners have warned that the increased fuel costs will lead to higher menu prices. Commercial LPG cylinders are essential for daily operations in food services, and this rise in cost will significantly affect their profit margins.
On the other hand, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged, providing some relief to household consumers. The price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi remains 853 rupees, consistent with the last revision on April 8, 2025. The prices in other major cities remain as follows: 852.50 rupees in Mumbai, 879 rupees in Kolkata, and 868.50 rupees in Chennai.
Earlier, in August 2025, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had commended the government’s decision to provide 30,000 crores in compensation to oil companies, ensuring stable LPG prices despite global market uncertainties. However, the latest price hike reflects the continuing challenge of managing energy costs.
The new rates for commercial LPG cylinders will remain in effect until further revisions are made by oil marketing companies.
