Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government will provide government jobs to 32 family members of those who died in the stampede during an election campaign in Karur. Chief Minister Vijay is expected to hand over the appointment orders on Friday.

Vijay is scheduled to visit Karur district on Friday, where he will take part in official government programmes as well as a public meeting.

Around 6,500 police personnel have been deployed in Karur as part of the security arrangements for the Chief Minister's visit. The tragedy occurred in September last year during an election campaign of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, led by Vijay, in which 41 people lost their lives. The families of the victims had earlier been provided financial assistance of ₹20 lakh each.

The incident took place on September 27 at Veluchamipuram in Karur during a TVK campaign event. A massive crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of Vijay, and people were forced to wait for long hours, leading to the fatal crowd surge.

Following the tragedy, Vijay personally met the families of those who died at Mahabalipuram. The TVK had also alleged that inadequate security arrangements were responsible for the incident.
