SFI Sweeps Jadavpur University Internal Complaints Committee Elections

Kolkata: In a decisive electoral victory, the SFI secured a clean sweep in the Internal Complaints Committee elections at Jadavpur University.

SFI candidates won all seats across the three major faculties—Engineering, Arts, and Science—leaving no room for opposition parties. The student wing of the All India Trinamool Congress, known as the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, failed to secure even a single seat. Meanwhile, candidates from ABVP performed poorly, finishing behind the NOTA option.

SFI continued its sweeping victory with women candidates securing both seats in the Arts faculty by emphatic margins.

In the undergraduate seat, SFI candidate Sania Ghosh polled 850 votes, far ahead of the ISA–DSF alliance, which managed only 144 votes. The ABVP trailed with just 17 votes.

For the postgraduate seat, SFI’s Disha Jha secured victory with 641 votes. The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) finished second with 95 votes, while ABVP again lagged behind with only 18 votes. Notably, in both seats, ABVP polled fewer votes than the NOTA option.

SFI also registered strong performances in other faculties. In Engineering, the Democratic Students’ Front (DSF) emerged victorious, while in the Science faculty, an independent group named “We the Independent” secured the win. In both these categories, ABVP and TMCP recorded minimal vote shares.

Reacting to the results, SFI stated that the outcome reflects a clear rejection of what it termed the “violent politics” of TMCP and the “communal politics” of ABVP on campus. The organization reiterated its demand for democratic student union elections across campuses in West Bengal.

In a joint statement, SFI All India President Adarsh M Saji and General Secretary Srijan Bhattacharyya congratulated party workers on the significant victory and hailed it as a strong endorsement of democratic student movements.

The elections were conducted on April 21 and 24, with results officially announced on Monday.
