News Delhi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly condemned the recent proposal by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) General Secretary to remove the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ from the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.

In an official statement issued today, the CPI(M) accused the RSS of exposing its long-standing agenda to subvert the Constitution and transform India into a Hindu Rashtra. The party described the move as part of the RSS’s broader Hindutva project, aimed at undermining the pluralistic and inclusive foundations of the nation.

The CPI(M) highlighted that the Indian Constitution’s inclusion of ‘socialism’ and ‘secularism’ is deeply rooted in the sacrifices and ideals of freedom fighters from diverse backgrounds, including revolutionaries like Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. The party asserted that these words are not arbitrary but reflect the core values upheld during the anti-colonial struggle.

The statement further criticized the RSS for its lack of participation in the freedom movement and called its proposal hypocritical. The CPI(M) labeled the RSS’s agenda as reactionary, anti-people, and divisive, emphasizing that it threatens the legacy of India’s martyrs.

Urging the public to remain alert, the CPI(M) appealed for united resistance against any attempts by the RSS and its political ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to alter the Constitution’s foundational principles.

The controversy is expected to fuel a wider debate over the future direction of India’s constitutional values and the role of secularism and socialism in its democratic framework.
