New Delhi: Following the escalation of the Western Asian conflict and the sharp rise in aviation fuel prices, India's leading airline, IndiGo, has imposed a fuel surcharge. The new rates will come into effect at midnight on March 14. As a result, this will increase ticket prices for both national and international flights. Depending on the distance, passengers will need to pay an additional fee ranging from Rs 425 to Rs 2,300.

The company stated that Iran's military actions in the Middle East and the rerouting of planes due to the conflict have sharply increased operating costs. Approximately 40 percent of the airline's total operating costs are spent on fuel.

Air India has already increased ticket prices, starting from Rs 399. Reports suggest that airlines like Spacejet and Akasa Air may also implement similar price hikes in the coming days. The instability in global crude oil prices and supply disruptions in the Gulf region have pushed the aviation sector into a crisis. As a result, both expatriates returning home during the holiday season and domestic travelers will face a significant financial burden.
