Protests Over Khamenei's Death Continue; Restrictions Persist in Kashmir

Sri Nagar: Restrictions in Kashmir continue following protests over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Protests in Kashmir intensified after the alleged assassination of Khamenei by the US-Israel alliance. These restrictions have been in place for the sixth consecutive day, having been imposed from Monday onwards.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with civil society representatives and religious leaders on Wednesday. Following the protests, educational institutions were closed until Saturday, and internet restrictions were imposed. Measures have also been taken in several areas to prevent public gatherings. Police and CRPF paramilitary forces have been deployed across the city to stop large assemblies, officials said. Police also stated that barricades have been set up at major intersections leading into the city.
On Sunday, people marched to the central Lal Chowk in Srinagar to protest the death of Khamenei. Police intervened to disperse the protesters, which led to clashes. Authorities used batons and tear gas to control the crowd. Subsequently, Ghanta Ghar, in the city center of Lal Chowk, was declared a restricted area.
