Kanpur: The bail application of Malayali pastor Albin, who was jailed in Uttar Pradesh on allegations of religious conversion, will be considered by a sessions court today. He was arrested by the Kanpur police following a complaint filed by the Bajrang Dal, with serious charges being registered against him.

Albin, a native of Vattappara in Thiruvananthapuram, had been staying at Bethesta Bhavan in Navrang, Kanpur, where he was engaged in evangelical activities. On the 13th of this month, Albin and his family were arrested jointly by the police and Bajrang Dal activists.

The police have alleged that a church was constructed in a residential house and that religious conversions were carried out there. However, the FIR also includes serious charges accusing Albin of attempting to disrupt public order and attacking protesters. The Kerala government has stepped in actively seeking his release.

Recently, Minister G R Anil visited Albin’s house in Vattappara and assured the family of all necessary legal assistance. The minister stated that the matter has been brought to the attention of the Chief Minister and that they will discuss the issue with the Uttar Pradesh government.

Albin’s brother has lodged a complaint alleging that the police are refusing to provide a copy of the FIR. It is reported that fellow pastors are expected to visit Albin in jail today.
