New Delhi: The NEET-UG re-test, which sparked nationwide controversy following the question paper leak, will be held tomorrow, June 21 (Sunday). The National Testing Agency (NTA) had decided to cancel the original examination and conduct a re-test after irregularities were detected in the exam held on May 3.
Protests demanding the Education Minister's resignation and the dissolution of the NTA continue to intensify across the country. In this backdrop, the central government and the NTA are exercising heightened vigilance to prevent any further lapses or security breaches.
As part of efforts to prevent leaks of exam-related information and question papers, strict restrictions have been put in place, including a temporary ban on Telegram in the country until the 22nd of this month.
In addition, authorities have issued an order strictly barring leave for medical students today and tomorrow, since a larger workforce is required for examination duties and other security-related supervision. Henceforth, leave for medical students will be granted only in emergency situations.
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has drawn attention on social media demanding the Union Education Minister's resignation, has called for a second phase of public protest in Delhi today. The party's first public protest was held in Delhi on the 6th of this month. Prominent figures, including founder Abhijeet Dipke, are set to take part in today's protest in person.
The CJP has appealed to major student organisations, including the SFI, to send representatives to join the protest. Meanwhile, over two lakh officials have been deployed for examination duty to ensure transparency.
Question papers are being transported in GPS-fitted vehicles, and students will be allowed into examination halls only after biometric verification and metal-detector screening. CCTV surveillance has also been stepped up.
