Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is set to host its first international film festival in September as authorities seek to revive tourism, attract fresh investment and position the region as a preferred destination for film production.
The five-day event, scheduled from Sept. 7 to 11 across multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley, is expected to bring together filmmakers, producers, directors, actors, critics and cinema enthusiasts from India and abroad.
Officials said the festival will be organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote Jammu and Kashmir’s film sector.
Authorities view the event as a key initiative under the J&K Film Policy 2024, which offers financial incentives, streamlined approvals through a single-window system and logistical support to film producers.
Officials said the participation of leading national and international filmmakers could help draw investment into the region, generate economic activity and strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s image as a safe and attractive destination for large-scale productions.
Beyond filmmaking, the government expects the festival to support the revival of tourism and highlight the region’s cultural heritage, natural beauty and historical significance.
The festival builds on efforts made by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to engage with the film industry. In November 2025, a government delegation attended the International Film Festival of India in Goa to promote the region’s film policy and interact with production houses, OTT platforms and industry stakeholders.
