MP Government Declares Epidemic in Indore After Deaths Linked to Contaminated Water

Bhopal: Following the death of multiple people in Indore, after consuming contaminated water, the Madhya Pradesh government has decalred it as an epidemic. The Health Department has directed the deployment of special teams to prevent the further spread of contamination, while a central team has begun an inspection to identify the source of the polluted water.
The decision to declare an epidemic was taken after an unusually high number of disease cases were reported from a specific locality. The central team is examining whether the contamination originated from a single source or multiple points.
A team from Kolkata is conducting investigations using advanced scientific methods, collecting water samples from various locations for testing. Narmada water supply to the affected areas has been suspended, and officials said the supply will be restored only after experts certify that the pipelines are completely free of contamination.
Authorities stated that the Bhagirathpura area has been divided into 32 beats to manage the crisis at a micro level. Teams have been assigned to ensure mandatory chlorination of all government and private borewells in each beat. Residents have been instructed to drain and clean basement storage tanks and to carry out professional chlorination before reuse, officials warned.
In the wake of the incident, a Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been suspended. The suspension order was issued against Ujjain Division Revenue Commissioner Ashish Singh.
