New Delhi: The central government has decided to lift restrictions on petrol and diesel sales, with the decision coming into effect from July 1. The curbs had been imposed amid the west asian conflict. The 200-litre-per-day diesel sales cap per vehicle has now been removed. Industrial and commercial customers will once again be allowed to purchase fuel from retail outlets.
The Centre is moving to normalise fuel supply after disruptions in crude oil distribution eased. Supply had been disrupted earlier due to tensions in West Asia. Additionally, a significant difference between fuel prices at retail outlets and bulk distribution centres had led industrial establishments and other bulk consumers to increasingly rely on retail pumps, prompting the government to impose sales restrictions on June 12.
With the domestic fuel supply situation now assessed to have improved, the government has withdrawn the order. Restrictions on commercial LPG distribution were also lifted by the government on June 25th. The government clarified that these temporary measures, introduced to prevent black-marketing and hoarding, are no longer necessary.
