Hundreds of Students Were Hospitalised After Taking Deworming Pills in Uttar Pradesh

Farrukhabad: Hundreds of students were hospitalised after experiencing physical discomfort following the consumption of deworming pills at a school in Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred at Jawaharlal Premadevi School in the Kamalganj block of Farrukhabad district. As part of a deworming drive, students were given Albendazole tablets, and within minutes, many experienced headaches and vomiting.
Parents panicked after nearly 100 students reported discomfort out of around 150 who had taken the tablets. Of them, 33 students were admitted to the Kamalganj Community Health Centre, while 67 were shifted to Lohia District Hospital for treatment. The health department stated that the condition of all affected students is currently stable. However, concerns have been raised regarding the quality of the tablets.
District Magistrate Ashutosh Kumar Dwivedi explained that the same medicine had been distributed across the district, but the issue was reported only at this particular school. An investigation has been launched to determine whether there was any defect in the medicine or if other factors were responsible. There have also been strong allegations that negligence within the government system may have led to the incident.
