Delhi Police Arrest Ghaziabad Man for Sending Fake Bomb Threat Emails to NIA, ISRO and Others

New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested a man from Ghaziabad on Thursday for sending fake bomb threat messages to several high-security establishments. The accused, a 36-year-old, has been under treatment for mental health challenges since 2008, police said.

On June 29, the accused sent emails claiming bombs had been planted at the headquarters of several prominent institutions, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), ISRO, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation. A threat email was also sent to an Air India flight operating from New Delhi to New York, prompting emergency security checks on board. This triggered a police investigation.

Officers tracked the digital trail of the emails and analysed two accounts suspected to have been used to send the messages, eventually tracing a mobile number linked to the email accounts. On June 30, a police team located the accused in Sanyog Nagar, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary investigation found that he had been receiving treatment at various medical institutions over the years following mental health challenges he has faced since 2008. A search was also conducted at his residence.
