Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam joined the DMK in the presence of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin upon his arrival at the party headquarters. Panneerselvam had recently stated that the DMK government would come to power again in Tamil Nadu. His change of heart comes at a time when elections are approaching, following his expulsion from the AIADMK party in 2022.

Meanwhile, the DMDK, the party founded by the late superstar Vijayakanth, will contest the elections as part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance. Vijayakanth's wife and party General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth visited the DMK headquarters in Chennai and met Chief Minister M. K. Stalin. The DMDK may be allocated a Rajya Sabha seat.

This marks the first time that the DMDK is joining hands with the DMK alliance since its formation in 2005. Premalatha stated that the number of seats to be contested will be decided later. She also mentioned that she would contest in the elections and expressed confidence that the DMK alliance would come to power again with more than 200 seats.
