New Delhi: On Wednesday morning, a massive fire broke out in the Palam area of South-West Delhi. In the fire, which occurred in a five-story building, seven members of a family, including three children, died. The fire started around 7 AM in the building near the Palam Metro Station. The building had two floors (second and third floors) with residential units, while the lower floors and basement were used as storage units for clothes and cosmetics. Seven people from the same family, including three children, died due to smoke inhalation and burns. Two others who were trapped in the building jumped down in an attempt to save themselves and are now undergoing treatment in the hospital for severe injuries.

Unscientifically constructed buildings continue to be a disaster risk in Delhi. Buildings originally intended for commercial purposes are also used for residential needs. The access points and fire safety measures in these buildings are limited, and inspections are often not conducted.

As soon as the fire department received the information, Delhi Fire Services sent fire units to the scene. Narrow streets and heavy smoke created significant obstacles for rescue operations. The fire brigade managed to extract the trapped individuals from the smoke-filled building. Although the seven people were rushed to the nearby hospital, doctors confirmed their deaths.
