Dense Fog Disrupts Flights, Rail Traffic in Delhi and Chennai

New Delhi: Dense fog in Delhi and Chennai severely disrupted daily life and transportation. On Wednesday morning, over a hundred flights scheduled to depart from airports in both cities were delayed due to poor visibility.
Several flights were also canceled. At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, visibility dropped to zero meters from early morning, hampering both landings and takeoffs. Many flights were diverted to Jaipur and Ahmedabad.
Chennai experienced a similar situation, caused by weather disturbances associated with the Northeast Monsoon and dense fog. Rail traffic was also affected, with about 30 trains to Delhi running hours behind schedule.
Severe air pollution in northern India has further intensified the fog. Passengers stranded at airports faced significant hardships, with some engaging in verbal altercations with airline staff over lack of timely information.
The Meteorological Department has warned that fog may persist over the next few days. Authorities have advised passengers to confirm timings with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.
Road traffic has also been affected, with police instructing vehicles to reduce speed on national highways to prevent accidents.
