New Delhi: Air traffic came to a standstill in the capital city due to dense smog caused by severe air pollution. Heavy fog experienced from early Saturday morning significantly reduced visibility, leading to delays and cancellations of several flights operating from Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) has crossed 361, placing it in the “severe” category. Thick smog has enveloped many parts of the city. Owing to poor visibility, airport operations are continuing under the CAT III instrument landing system.

Authorities have advised passengers to check with their respective airlines to confirm flight timings, as further delays are possible. Restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to control pollution remain in force across Delhi.

The combination of intense cold and rising air pollution has severely affected daily life. The Meteorological Department has warned that smoggy conditions are likely to persist over the coming days.
