New Delhi: The Delhi government is taking strong measures to combat the suffocating air pollution in the national capital. From Thursday onwards, the city has strictly implemented the “No PUC, No Fuel” law.

Vehicles without a valid pollution certificate will not be allowed to refuel at petrol pumps. Private vehicles that do not meet the BS6 emission standards and are coming from outside the city are also subject to entry restrictions in Delhi.

Electric vehicles, CNG vehicles, and vehicles used for essential services have been exempted from these restrictions. These measures are part of the fourth phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Police and traffic department officials have been deployed at petrol pumps. Using cameras and checking vehicle number plates, authorities will ensure the validity of pollution certificates.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that strict penalties, including vehicle seizure, will be imposed on violators. As part of pollution reduction measures, the government has mandated that 50% of employees in government and private offices work from home.

The ban on construction activities also continues. The administration has taken these emergency measures as the air quality index remains in a critically severe range.
