New Delhi: Security agencies have issued a high alert in Delhi following intelligence inputs about a potential terror attack. Reports suggest that Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba is planning strikes targeting crowded religious and heritage sites in the national capital.

Officials have flagged the Chandni Chowk temple area in Old Delhi and the Red Fort area as possible locations for an IED attack. Sources indicate that the plot may be linked to retaliation for a blast at a mosque in Islamabad on February 6.

To counter the threat, authorities have deployed additional security personnel at vulnerable sites, enhanced CCTV surveillance, set up vehicle checks, and activated bomb disposal squads.

The alert comes in the context of the suicide car bomb blast near Red Fort metro station last year, which killed 12 people and injured over 20. Investigations revealed the use of ammonium nitrate explosives. DNA analysis confirmed that the driver was Umar Muhammad (Umar un Nabi), a doctor from Al-Falah University, Faridabad.

Umar Muhammad was part of a larger terror module operating in Haryana. Security forces had seized 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad shortly before the blast. In connection with the case, Dr. Muzammil and Dr. Adil Rather have been arrested.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as enhanced security measures continue across the city.
