New Delhi: Representing the CPI(M) at the All Party Meeting convened by the Government of India on May 8, 2025, Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas expressed concern over the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the second consecutive time at such a crucial juncture. The meeting was held in the wake of Operation Sindoor, following cross-border military action reported by the government.
Brittas urged the government to convene another All Party Meeting with the participation of the Prime Minister and to call a special session of Parliament to discuss the implications of the operation in full.
Reacting to the government’s statement that the “intended objectives of the operation are achieved,” Brittas expressed caution, stating that past experiences raise doubts about the effectiveness of military action alone in dismantling terrorist groups. He emphasized the need for continued diplomatic efforts and building sustained international pressure to bring perpetrators to justice, while ensuring that the situation does not escalate further.
He called for immediate measures to protect residents in border areas and to extend support to those affected by the ongoing situation. Brittas also stressed the importance of transparency, urging the government to disclose all relevant information to the public and to actively counter the spread of misinformation.
Reiterating that “terror has no religion,” Brittas emphasized that any fight against terrorism must also address and curb the spread of hate. He warned that the war on terror cannot succeed if communal divisions are allowed to deepen.
Commending the people of Pahalgam and Kashmir for their unity and resilience, Brittas said their compassionate response to terrorism should serve as a model for the entire country. He further called on the government to lead an all-party delegation to Kashmir at an appropriate time to stand in solidarity with those affected by the recent violence.
