Contaminated Drinking Water in Srikakulam: One Dead, Over 70 Hospitalised

Srikakulam: A man who was undergoing treatment after drinking contaminated water has died. More than 70 people have been admitted to the hospital, and two people are in critical condition.
The incident occurred in Dhamma Veethi Colony in Srikakulam town, where residents were using water supplied through the public distribution pipeline. Since January 22, many people have been suffering from diarrhea and other discomforts. However, the cause was not immediately identified. An investigation began only after the situation became severe. The deceased had been in critical condition.
It is believed that waste material mixed with the old water supply pipelines leading to the colony caused the contamination. The water supply has now been completely shut down. Health officials are conducting screenings in the homes of those affected. Patients in serious condition have been shifted to both government and private hospitals.
Following the recent incident in Rajamahendravaram, where four people died after consuming adulterated milk, the state is now facing another tragedy involving contaminated drinking water. These back-to-back incidents have sparked widespread concern and protests across Andhra Pradesh.
