Bengaluru: The family of prominent businessman and Confident Group chairman C J Roy (57) has once again reiterated allegations against central agencies in connection with his suicide. Roy’s brother, C J Babu, said there was no reason for Roy to take his life other than the intense pressure he faced from Income Tax officials. He added that Roy had no debts or other threats. Babu told the media that Roy had called him on the morning of Friday and informed him about the raid being carried out by officials.

The Confident Group has filed a complaint seeking a detailed investigation into C J Roy’s death, following which the probe has been handed over to the Karnataka CID. As part of the investigation, preliminary statements have been recorded from Roy’s family members and Confident Group employees. The investigation team has also taken custody of Roy’s diary. Roy’s family is also expected to file a separate complaint.

Meanwhile, sources connected with the Income Tax department have denied allegations that officials exerted pressure on Roy, stating that only legal procedures were followed. They have unofficially told the media that officials will cooperate with the police investigation. However, the Income Tax Department has so far refrained from issuing an official statement on the incident. The raids at the Confident Group were led by a ten-member team under Joint Director of Income Tax Krishnaprasad.
