CBSE Introduces New Marking Formula for Plus Two Private Students in Gulf Countries After Exam Cancellations

New Delhi: The CBSE has introduced a new marking system for private Plus Two students in Gulf countries whose exams were cancelled owing to the tense situation in West Asia. The new rule, issued on June 21, applies to students in seven countries — Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
For private students who have neither school-based internal assessment marks nor pre-board exam results, marks will be awarded in a 40:60 ratio — 40 percent based on their Class 10 theory exam marks, and 60 percent based on marks from their most recent Class 12 exam attempt. This is the formula CBSE has adopted for the new marking system.
The matter reached the Supreme Court following a complaint from a student in Saudi Arabia, who objected to private students being left out even after results for regular students had already been declared.
When the case came up for hearing, the central government informed the court that the student's result had already been calculated and issued under the new formula. The Centre also clarified that students unsatisfied with the new marking system would be allowed to appear again in the next CBSE board examination. The court subsequently disposed of the case, while granting the student permission to pursue further legal remedies if needed.
