New Delhi: In Chhattisgarh, a BJP -ruled state, six Bajrang Dal activists who had vandalised Christmas decorations at the prominent Magneto shopping mall in Raipur were granted bail by the Sessions Court yesterday. Following their release, the activists received what many described as a ‘royal welcome’ from their supporters.
The group was greeted with drumbeats, garlands, and being lifted onto shoulders, while supporters chanted provocative slogans against Christians. Videos of the event quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism. Many observers pointed out that such public displays reflect the acceptance given to those who carry out organised attacks on minorities in Modi-led India and may encourage further criminal acts.
The incident is part of a troubling pattern of attacks against Christians in BJP -ruled states during the Christmas season. When questioned, Rishi Mishra, state coordinator of the Bajrang Dal, defended the reception, saying there was nothing wrong with welcoming the activists.
