Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) Thiruvananthapuram district secretary and MLA V Joy has alleged that the Congress has turned into a violent group willing to cross any moral boundary for political gain, in connection with the death of Ajith, the husband of a Congress candidate in Vembayam panchayat.

Addressing the issue, V Joy said emerging details point to the possible involvement of Congress leaders in Ajith’s death. He claimed that police have received information suggesting that the room where Ajith was found unconscious, along with a nearby room, was repainted the day after the funeral, raising serious suspicions of an attempt to destroy evidence.

Ajith Kumar’s wife, Beena, had contested the panchayat election from Kankode ward in Vembayam as a Congress candidate and lost. According to V Joy, Beena initially stated that Ajith’s death was due to a heart attack. However, the postmortem report later revealed that the cause of death was a severe blow to the head, contradicting earlier claims.

V Joy further alleged that on October 19, Ajith had posted critical remarks against the Congress on Facebook. Following this, while Ajith was outside his home, he was allegedly called back over the phone, after which the incident occurred. The CPI(M) leader made these allegations in a social media post, calling for accountability and a comprehensive investigation.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) leaders visited Ajith’s parents at their residence in Vetinadu, Vembayam. The delegation included district secretary V Joy MLA, area secretary K P Pramod, S K Bijukumar, and L S Liju. They met Ajith’s father Madhavan Nair and mother Radhadevi, offering condolences and assuring them that the party would intervene to ensure a detailed investigation and appropriate legal action.

The incident has triggered political controversy in the district, with CPI(M) demanding a transparent probe to uncover the truth behind Ajith’s death.
