394 Families Get New Apartments in Thuruthy

KOCHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the twin apartment towers at Thuruthy near Fort Kochi, housing 394 families, and described the project as a model for the entire country. The housing project was implemented by the Kochi Corporation in collaboration with Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML).


Speaking at the event on Saturday,Pinarayi Vijayan said, “When the government proposed housing for all, many dismissed it as impossible. Despite objections, the government moved forward and completed the project.” He added that the state has built around four lakh houses so far, with Ernakulam alone receiving 40,000 units. The Fort Kochi multi- storey apartments are in addition to these.


The Chief Minister also pointed out attempts to disrupt welfare initiatives, including LIFE Mission, welfare pensions, and the K-FON project. He called for unity to ensure the welfare of all, regardless of political differences.

Local Self-Government Minister M B Rajesh presided over the function. Industries Minister P Rajeeve, MLA K J Maxy, and Kochi Mayor M Anilkumar were also present.


The first apartment complex, constructed by the Kochi Corporation under the Rajiv Awas Yojana, has a built-up area of 10,796.42 sq.m, costing 41.74 crore rupees. The 11-storey building contains 199 units, each measuring 300 sq.ft, with a dining -cum -living area, bedroom, kitchen, balcony, and two toilets. The tower includes 81 parking slots, a sewage treatment plant with 105 KLD capacity, three elevators, and staircases. Common areas of 150 sq.m and 800 sq.m are located on the first and 11th floors respectively. The ground floor houses an anganwadi and 14 shops.

The second tower, built by CSML at a cost of 44.01 crore rupees, has 195 units across 13 floors, each measuring 350 sq.ft, arranged around a common courtyard. Both towers are equipped with lifts and modern amenities.

The Chief Minister handed over keys to the beneficiaries during the function, marking a milestone in the state’s efforts to provide housing for all.
