Pathanamthitta: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the Sabarimala gold theft has reached Sannidhanam to carry out expert examination and scientific sample collection as directed by the High Court. The process will focus on the gold and copper sheets manufactured and supplied by the first accused, Unnikrishnan Potti, and on key structures inside the Sreekovil.

The team, led by Investigation Officer DySP S. Sasidharan, arrived at Sannidhanam on Sunday. As per the High Court’s instructions, the SIT will conduct a detailed scientific examination of the dwarapalaka panel and the door frames at the Sreekovil. Forensic experts, including chemical analysts, will join the process. The examination will be carried out today after 1 pm, once the temple is closed and the tantri grants permission.

Samples will be collected from the gold and copper coating on the dwarapalaka sculptures and door frames. The team will also take samples from the sections that were gold-plated in 1998 by Vijay Mallya’s UB Group. These samples will undergo scientific tests such as conductivity measurements, spectroscopic analysis, and microstructure examination. Officials said the findings will help determine the quantity of gold lost and assess the purity of the remaining gold plating. Investigators believe that the scientific verification of the gold sheets and copper plates could offer a crucial breakthrough in the case. The SIT is expected to complete the examination at Sannidhanam today.
