Heavy Rainfall to Continue Across Kerala; Orange Alert Issued for 5 Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rainfall continued across Kerala on Thursday night and Friday, causing widespread disruptions. Trees and power lines were brought down in several districts, damaging houses and vehicles, while low-lying areas experienced waterlogging. Rising water levels were also reported in many rivers across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for five districts, including Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Extremely heavy rainfall, ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours, was predicted in isolated areas.
The IMD also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to intense rainfall, and maximum surface wind speeds of up to 50 kmph in gusts in isolated locations. An orange alert indicates very heavy rainfall between 11 and 20 cm.
Authorities have advised residents in landslide- and flood-prone areas, as well as those living near riverbanks and downstream of dams, to relocate according to official instructions. Strong winds are expected to continue in some regions.
