UDF MLA Mani C Kappan Sentenced to One Year in Cheque Bounce Case

Mumbai: UDF MLA Mani C Kappan has been sentenced to one year in prison in cheque cases. The order was issued by a court in Borivali, Mumbai. He was convicted in four cases, including a complaint by an expatriate businessman who alleged that he was defrauded after being promised a shareholding in Kannur International Airport.

The cases allege that Mani C Kappan cheated the complainants of more than Rs 3 crore. Dinesh, a native of Palakkad and a businessman based in Mumbai, was among those who filed complaints.

The court directed Kappan to pay compensation within one month. Failure to do so would result in an additional three months of imprisonment.

The MLA was not present in court when the sentence was pronounced.
