Thiruvananthapuram / Pathanamthitta: In tribute to one of Kerala's longest-running bus services, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) fast passenger service between Kattakkada and Moozhiyar will be felicitated by the Malayinkeezh Panchayat on tomorrow on Tuesday morning.

The bus, which has been in continuous operation for over 60 years, will be greeted with a reception at 5 am when it halts at Malayinkeezh — a regular stop along its early morning route.

Originally launched from the Thiruvananthapuram depot to facilitate the transport of labourers working on the Moozhiyar dam project, the service was later shifted to the Kattakkada depot in 1992. Since then, it has evolved into a crucial daily link for hundreds of commuters, including government employees, workers, and students, many of whom rely on it for their day-to-day travel.

Currently, the service departs from Kattakkada at 4.30 am and reaches Moozhiyar by noon, traversing scenic routes that also make it a popular choice for travellers and nature lovers heading toward the picturesque Moozhiyar dam. The return trip begins at 2.45 pm. The felicitation ceremony is being organised to honour the legacy of the service and its contribution to regional connectivity over the decades.

Established in 1965, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is one of the oldest and most trusted public transport systems in India. It was formed under the Road Transport Corporation Act of 1950 and has played an important role in connecting the urban and rural landscapes of Kerala. With a wide fleet ranging from city buses to long-distance super fast services, KSRTC is known for its extensive reach, affordability, and commitment to public service. Despite challenges such as rising operational costs and competition from private players, KSRTC continues to adapt and modernize, recently introducing electric buses and digital ticketing to improve passenger experience.
