Three Dead as Tipper Lorry Crashes Into Bus Stop in Kollam

Kollam: Three people were killed and several others injured after a tipper lorry, having lost control, rammed into a bus stop at Neeleswaram, Kottarakkara, this morning around 7 am. Two of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
Seven students and one adult were present at the bus stop at the time. The lorry, which was being driven at high speed, first collided with a motorcycle, lost control, and then crashed into the bus stop.
Most of those trapped under the tipper are students. The lorry, which was carrying sand, ploughed into a group of commuters who were waiting for a bus.
The sand being carried by the lorry spilled onto the road, trapping victims underneath. The tipper lorry's driver has also been injured. Rescue operations are being carried out jointly by local residents and the fire force.
Preliminary reports indicate that several people, including children, remain trapped under the lorry. A number of people, including elderly persons, were waiting at the stop at the time of the accident. An emergency rescue operation is under way at the site to extricate those trapped under the vehicle. Eyewitnesses say the lorry was being driven at excessive speed.
