Kerala Govt Stands With Family of Mob Lynching Victim Ramnarayan Bhayyal

Palakkad: The Kerala government stands firmly with the family of Ramnarayan Bhayyal, who was beaten to death by a mob at Attappallam in Walayar, Local Self-Government Minister M.B. Rajesh said on Monday. Five people have been arrested in connection with the case, and the Crime Branch has taken over the investigation. The minister said strict action would follow and that there would be no leniency, assuring that all steps would be taken to ensure maximum punishment for those responsible.
Rajesh said Bhayyal was a migrant worker who had come to Kerala in search of employment and was subjected to a so-called “trial” before being assaulted by a group that included known RSS activists. Branding him a “Bangladeshi,” the attackers acted out of racial hatred and communal politics, he said, describing Bhayyal as a victim of the toxic communal ideology being spread by the Sangh Parivar across the country.
The minister criticised attempts to project the incident merely as a case of “mob lynching,” arguing that such descriptions masked the political motive behind the killing. He pointed out that those arrested were also accused in an earlier case involving an attempt to murder two CPI(M) workers after forcibly entering their house. Their political affiliations and criminal background were known, he said, yet there were efforts to conceal the role of hate politics in the crime.
Bhayyal, a native of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, was targeted because of this hate-driven politics, Rajesh said. Five people, including four BJP workers, have been arrested so far. When Bhayyal told the group that he had come in search of his sister, the accused allegedly shouted at him, accusing him of having entered the country illegally from Bangladesh, before launching a brutal assault.
Even though some of the attackers understood Hindi and were able to comprehend what Bhayyal was saying, they continued to beat him. A video of the assault later surfaced on social media. Police surgeon Dr. Hitesh Shankar, who conducted the post-mortem examination, said Bhaiyal had sustained injuries all over his body. The assault occurred around 6 pm on Wednesday, and Bhaiyal died later that night.
