Palakkad Medical College House Surgeons Temporarily Call Off Strike

Palakkad: House surgeons at Palakkad Medical College Hospital have temporarily called off their strike following an assurance from Minister K A Thulasi that their demands would be implemented as soon as possible. The poor condition of the medical college hospital under the Scheduled Caste Development Department had come to light in recent days.

One of the main demands of the doctors was the lack of facilities such as X-ray services and the need to resolve the issue at the earliest. They had also demanded improvements to the hospital’s basic infrastructure. The minister assured them that these demands would be addressed as soon as possible. Based on this assurance, the house surgeons announced that they were temporarily ending the strike. The doctors said they had achieved a breakthrough after a five-day protest.

The doctors launched the strike highlighting the hospital’s inadequate facilities after some doctors injured in an accident on the medical college campus had to be referred to the district hospital.

The hospital does not have X-ray or CT scan facilities. Doctors had alleged that there were not even the basic facilities urgently required when a patient arrives at the hospital. They had also revealed that even patients injured in accidents had to be referred to the district hospital if they required an X-ray or CT scan.
