Building Collapses in Delhi's Satya Niketan, Several People Feared Trapped

New Delhi: A building has collapsed in Satya Niketan, South West Delhi, with several people believed to be trapped inside. Several people has been rescued so far and rescue operations are continuing at the site. Over 15 people are reported to have been inside the building at the time.

The collapse occurred around 1.30 pm on Sunday. The area, home to several colleges, is densely populated with students, and those trapped are believed to be mostly students.

Fire officials said they received an alert about the incident around 1.30 pm, prompting an immediate response. Eight fire tenders, along with rescue teams from multiple departments, were dispatched to the site.

Police also reached the spot soon after and cordoned off the area, as emergency personnel began a search and rescue operation to reach anyone trapped.

There has been no official confirmation regarding the number of people trapped under the debris.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta responded to the incident on social media platform X, saying she was "deeply concerned" by the collapse. She said teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS), and Civil Defence were all carrying out rescue operations "on a war footing."

As a precautionary step, the building adjacent to the collapsed structure has been vacated, Gupta said, adding that every possible effort was being made to safely rescue those trapped and to provide immediate assistance to the affected families.

The Chief Minister said the situation was being closely monitored, with all concerned agencies coordinating their response, and reiterated that "the safety and well-being of every citizen remain our highest priority."
