Jaipur: A controversy has emerged around teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has been in greta form for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. An activist from Karnataka has alleged that allowing the 15-year-old to play in the high-intensity league amounts to child labour and has threatened legal action against the franchise.
In a video circulating on social media, activist Jagadish is seen demanding that authorities intervene, arguing that Vaibhav should be focusing on his education rather than professional cricket at such a young age. He has also called on the Labour Commissioner to initiate an investigation into the matter. However, the authenticity and seriousness of the claims in the video remain unclear.
Despite the controversy, Vaibhav has had an impressive season. In the 2026 IPL, he has already played 10 matches, scoring 404 runs, including one century and two half-centuries. He was signed by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2025 season auction for ₹1.10 crore and earns ₹7.5 lakh per match as a match fee.
Vaibhav holds records as one of the youngest players to be picked in an IPL auction and to feature in the tournament. Known for his fearless batting style, he has been instrumental at the top order alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, giving Rajasthan a strong edge in several matches.
The young cricketer represents Bihar cricket team in domestic cricket and is widely regarded as one of the most promising talents in Indian cricket today.
