Fort Lauderdale: Lionel Messi, one of football’s greatest ever, has added a historic chapter to his extraordinary career, guiding Inter Miami to their first-ever Major League Soccer Cup with a 3-1 victory over Thomas Müller’s Vancouver Whitecaps. The win marks the 47th trophy of Messi’s glittering career, but for the Argentine superstar, it was about more than just another accolade, it was the culmination of a dream three years in the making.

Messi’s brilliance shone brightest when it mattered most. After an early own goal by Vancouver had put Inter Miami ahead, they equalised in the 60th minute, bringing tension and drama to the pitch. Yet Messi remained unflappable. In the 72nd minute, he delivered the perfect pass to Rodrigo De Paul, restoring Miami’s lead, and later added another assist in stoppage time, sealing the historic triumph.

'Three years ago, I decided to come to MLS, and today we are MLS champions,' Messi said, emotion clear in his voice. "We worked hard all season. This is the moment we have been waiting for as a team. It’s very beautiful for all of us.'

The match also added another chapter to the storied rivalry between Messi and Müller. Historically, Müller has often had the upper hand, winning seven of their ten previous encounters and twice eliminating Messi and Argentina in World Cups. But on Saturday, it was Messi’s turn to shine. Even Müller, who slammed his hand in frustration at one point, could only smile and applaud as Messi lifted the match’s Most Valuable Player award during the trophy ceremony.

Emotions ran high off the pitch as well. Retiring stars Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets were overcome with tears, the reality of leaving the game as champions sinking in. Messi reflected warmly on their achievements: 'Today something very beautiful ends for them, something to which they dedicated their whole lives. Now a new life begins for them. I wish them the very best, because they are two friends I care for deeply.'

Messi also embraced Inter Miami co-owners Jorge Mas and David Beckham, who brought the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner to the struggling club three years ago. First-year coach Javier Mascherano called it 'very, very special,' adding: "He came here to win this trophy, and he delivered.'

For Messi, it was a night of triumph, emotion, and history. For Inter Miami, it was the culmination of years of hard work, a journey from the bottom of the league to the pinnacle of MLS. And for football fans everywhere, it was a reminder that even at the twilight of his career, Messi’s magic can still light up the world.
