Nilambur: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) officially started its election campaign in Nilambur today with a rousing reception for its candidate, M Swaraj. The young leader was welcomed by party workers and supporters at Nilambur Railway Station this morning, marking the beginning of a high-energy campaign trail.
M Swaraj arrived from Shoranur Railway Station at 8:50 AM, receiving an enthusiastic welcome at each stop along the way. Party workers and local residents gathered in large numbers, especially at Angadippuram, to greet the candidate, who is contesting from his native constituency this time.
The day’s campaign activities include a major roadshow starting at 2:30 PM from Kacherypadi. The procession will cover key regions including Chakkalakkuth, Ramankuth underpass, Pookkottumpadam (3 PM), Karulai (3:30 PM), Moothedam (4 PM), Vazhikkadavu (4:30 PM), Marutha (5 PM), Pothukal (6 PM), and Chungathara (6:30 PM), before concluding at Edakkara by 7 PM.
M Swaraj’s return to Nilambur has ignited enthusiasm within the LDF ranks, with many seeing his candidacy as a strategic move to boost the front’s prospects in the region. Known for his oratory, political acumen, and grassroots connection, Swaraj represents the new generation of Left leadership.
His candidature was formally announced by CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan during a press conference, following the state secretariat meeting held on Friday.
A native of Nilambur, Swaraj began his public life through student and youth movements, eventually rising to prominence within the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), where he also served as the editor of the movement’s magazine, Yuvadhara.
He is also a respected author and columnist, with several books and articles to his credit. Swaraj made a significant political mark in 2016 when, as the DYFI state secretary, he defeated then Congress minister K. Babu in Tripunithura to become an MLA.
