Journalist Faces Cyberattacks, Threats After Asking Questions to UP CM Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow: Independent journalist Divya Srivastava has allegedly faced widespread cyberattacks and threats after attempting to question Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a press event. She has also reportedly lost her job following the incident.

The controversy erupted after a video of an event at the BJP office in Lucknow, where Srivastava questioned Adityanath, was widely circulated on social media.

Srivastava attempted to ask a question as Adityanath was leaving after addressing the media at the BJP office. In the video, she can be heard saying that journalists should be given an opportunity to ask questions. She also said that if the chief minister was unwilling to answer questions, the event should be called a “press address” rather than a “press conference”.

Srivastava said that she was surrounded and threatened by some people at the BJP office following the incident. In a video shared on social media, she claimed that she was threatened with “bulldozer raj” at her home and said she was afraid to leave her house.

She also alleged that social media posts were circulating claims that she had been sent to question Adityanath by either the Samajwadi Party or the Congress.

Srivastava said she was an independent journalist and alleged that attempts were being made to give a political colour to the questions she had raised.

The incident has sparked discussions over the treatment of journalists who question political leaders and the use of online harassment and threats against independent journalists.
